Nurosym: all your questions, answered
Meet Nurosym: the revolutionary wearable device that’s helping thousands cope with chronic fatigue, anxiety, stress, insomnia, brain fog, POTS, gut problems, depression and more. How? We asked Dr Greta Dalle Luche, Head of Science at Nurosym, to explain all...
What is Nurosym and how does it work?
"Nurosym is a wearable medical device that sends targeted electrical signals to the brain via the vagus nerve. You wear the device – an earpiece – during each session and remove it at the end of each session.
"Nurosym uses proprietary technology called Auricular Vagal Neuromodulation Therapy (AVNT™) to activate your vagus nerve and balance your nervous system."
What health benefits does Nurosym provide?
"If you use Nurosym daily, you can expect to experience a calmer mind, sharper thinking, better sleep management and an overall higher resilience to stress. By balancing your nervous system, you may also find it easier to regulate your energies, problem solve and make better decisions in your day to day: to release your strength and vitality when you need it and concentrate or achieve a higher state of relaxation when you choose to."

How are these benefits backed up by research?
"Nurosym is a CE marked medical device and represents the gold standard in clinical research, with over 30 positive clinical trials concluded so far. These included the following findings:
-
Vagus Nerve Activity: 61% increase in 5 minutes
-
Long-Covid Symptoms: 61% improvement (includes fatigue, brain fog, GI symptoms, pain)
-
Fatigue: 48% improvement
-
Sleep: 19% improvement
-
Inflammation: 78% improvement
-
Depression Score: 45% improvement
-
Heart Rate Variability: 18% increase
-
POTS Tachycardia: 40% improvement
-
Oxidative Stress: 28% reduction
-
Memory: 32% improvement
-
Reading: 29% improvement
-
Macrocirculation: 50% improvement
-
Microcirculation: 39% improvement
-
Attention Deficiency: 11% improvement
-
Anxiety: 35% improvement
-
Atrial Fibrillation: 85% reduction
-
Heart Muscle Function: 19% improvement
-
GI Symptoms: 80% improvement
These results are based on a specific study population, and individual results may vary."
When and how would you recommend using Nurosym for optimum results?
"We recommend a treatment time of 60 minutes daily, with a maximum suggested usage of 90 minutes per day. You can also split the treatment into two sessions, such as 2 x 30-minute or 2 x 45-minute sessions, ideally one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Nurosym can be administered at any time of day. We suggest incorporating it into your daily routine, ideally, when you're preparing to rest or need to wind down — not during or just before strenuous activities (e.g. high intensity sport), but after to aid recovery."

Are there any side effects to consider?
"As with any medical device, side effects are possible, but Nurosym is considered low risk with a high safety profile. Across over 30 clinical studies, there have been no reports of serious adverse events."
Scientific interest in vagus nerve stimulation is exploding. How can stimulating the vagus nerve transform physical and mental health?
"Modern science has discovered that many symptoms and conditions are not caused by external factors, but by a chronically dysregulated nervous system. The nervous system and one of its largest nerves - the vagus nerve - controls all body functions, from breathing, heart rate, digestion to energy, calmness and mood. When the vagus nerve is not functioning properly, organs and systems of the body don’t work in harmony leading to poor physical and mental health.
"Your vagus nerve is your natural highway between mind and body and its activation increases the parasympathetic (rest or digest) nervous system and decreases excessive sympathetic (fight or flight) response. By strengthening the nervous system in a natural way through modulating the activity of the vagus nerve, Nurosym helps restore balance to the mind and body."

From cold water swimming to humming there are lots of tips out there for hacking the vagus nerve. Are there any that you use or would recommend trying?
"Hacking the vagus nerve can be intriguing because it’s linked to various aspects of health, like stress management and mood regulation. A combination of fast scientific progress alongside an increase in awareness of the risks of living an hyperstimulated and hyperconnected modern lifestyle is helping shed light on the science of the vagus nerve and on new ways to control or harness your nervous system.
"Auricular vagal neuromodulation therapy (AVNT) using Nurosym has been scientifically demonstrated to provide significant health benefits in the comfort of home under rigorous safety standards.
"Some pills or devices on the market claim benefits when combined with other practices such as meditation or breathing, which independently provide benefits such as relaxation, anxiety, mood, stress, sleep. This fact makes it hard to discern whether claimed benefits are due to the device itself or the additional practice.
"There are in fact some activities that can provide immediate stress relief and that have been associated with improved vagal activity when they are performed consistently. Here are a few methods that might be worth trying:
Deep Breathing Exercises: Slow, deep breathing can stimulate the vagus nerve and promote relaxation. Techniques like diaphragmatic breathing or the 4-7-8 method are popular.
Cold Exposure: Brief exposure to cold, such as plunging in cold water or or taking a cold shower splashing cold water on your face can activate the vagus nerve and help with stress reduction. Joining a local cold plunge can come with the added benefit of social interactions and overall connecting with a community of people that care about their health.
Humming and Singing: These activities can engage the vagus nerve due to the vibrations and muscle movements involved.
Meditation and Mindfulness: Practices that involve mindfulness or meditation can help regulate the nervous system and stimulate the vagus nerve.
Exercise: Regular physical activity, especially aerobic exercise, can support vagal tone and overall nervous system health.
Diet: Eating a balanced diet with plenty of fiber, healthy fats, and probiotics can support gut health, which is closely connected to vagal tone.
Nurosym is pioneering a new class of technology that uses bioelectrical signals targeted to targeted to the body’s neural circuits, improving health without surgery or drugs."
